Key adaptations

Blind Mole Rats eyes are covered in skin because they are no use in the underground tunnels where they live. Blind mole rats dig with their chisel-like incisors, pushing and packing earth with their broad snouts and kicking dirt out behind them with their hind feet. They have thick, soft fur that is nearly reversible, allowing the animals to easily back down tunnels.

Did you know that...?

Blind Mole Rats communicate with vibrations created by hitting their heads against the tunnel ceilings, females find these good vibrations especially attractive.
