Little is known about the feeding habits of Chimaeras, but probably pick prey from the substrate.

Key adaptations

In many species of Chimaera, the snout is modified to be a sensory organ. They have tooth plates for breaking and grinding up their prey. For predator defence, most species have a venomous spine on their back.
