They had powerful jaw muscles for chewing tough vegetation

Key adaptations

They had a squat body, similar to that of the k=Koala. They had long arms, fingers, feet and toes, adapted for grasping trees. They also had splayed legs that were useful for vertical climbing. Giant lemurs had an enlarged upper lip, and nasal region similar to a Rhino, thought to be specialised for grasping leaves.
