Key adaptations

Cladoselache were streamlined, lightweight skeleton and specially adapted tail which made it a fast and agile swimmer. It's strong jaw-closing muscles and multi-cusped teeth made it good at grasping prey which it probably then swallowed whole.

Did you know that...?

These are one of the best known early sharks because fossils were so well preserved in 'Cleveland Shale' on Lake Erie, with remains of skin tissue, muscle fibre and internal organs as well as the skeleton.
